njordsifusansoobah, after unsucessful tries of the bonus dungeon in .hack//Quarantine (the one you unlock for beating the game), I looked it up on gamefaqs's forum. It turns out I am not doing anything wrong, I am just not being lucky enough to go through a 15 level dungeon with data bugs as normal monsters without getting a game over due to infection. Only lucky enough to make it down to lvl 9 so far (my last try). Well maybe my luck will be better another day.
::edit:: tried it again and beat it. Turns out the next couple of levels had a better mix of non-data bug mobs vs data bugs so my infection level was able to drop (went from red to blue-green). Now all I really have to do is raise affection levels of a few people, and do that item collection quest.
